Fort Worden Cemetery Map        Fort Worden Cemetery Records (Print Version in PDF)

ESTABLISHED: The first recorded burial was in 1902.

LOCATION: Port Townsend; Adjacent to the southwest corner of Fort Worden State Park, approximately 1.5 miles due north of the Port Townsend business district. At the corner of W and Spruce Streets

From the Jefferson County Courthouse in Port Townsend, go 0.5 miles NNW on Walker Street to where it angles right and becomes Cherry Street. Continue 1.0 miles on Cherry Street to the intersection of Cherry and W Streets. (The main gate of Fort Worden is directly ahead of you.) Turn left and go 0.2 miles on W Street. Fort Worden Military Cemetery is on your right.

HISTORY: This is a military post cemetery.  The US Army left Ft. Worden in 1953, and the Fort became a state park with the exception of the burial ground.

OWNER: US Army

SEXTON RECORDS: Fort Lewis Public Works, Box 339500, MS17, Bldg 2012, Fort Lewis, WA 98433-9500

CONTACT PERSON: Dan Frey 253-966-1722

MAP: A map of graves with names marked is available in the JCGS Library.

COMPILERS: This project could not be completed without the help of many people: In 1985 Rosamond Nadine Houghton Van Noy. In 2006 Jerry and Harlean Hamilton, and Bev Brice database support.

SOURCE OF INFORMATION: JCGS members compiled an index for the cemetery in 1984. This information came from a combination of walking the cemetery and funeral home records. In 1984 no distinction was made between information found in the records as opposed to seen on the walk through. In 2006 JCGS completed an update to these records:

  • The Sexton Records were not available for this listing.
  • The cemetery was walked, making note of those with markers and any information contained on the markers was entered in the record.
  • Consult the map for location of sections. The map dates from 1968 and thus does not contain all the burials in the record.
  • The current list combines all the work done in 1984 and 2006.

As is true with all compiled records, errors may have occurred. It is suggested that you verify the information.
